EMP Global today announced that the Islamic Development Bank Infrastructure Fund, managed by Emerging Markets Partnership (Bahrain), has committed US$50 million to part-finance the Senai-Desaru toll road project in Malaysia through the purchase of RM215 million 33-year nominal value in an irredeemable convertible unsecured loans. The project is a 77km expressway costing US$368 million (RM1.4 billion) designed to link the Senai area of Malaysia with Ulu Tiram, Pasir Gudang and Desaru. Senai Desaru Expressway, a 70-30 joint venture between Rancak Bistari Sdn Bhd and a Johor State Government agency, Yayasan Pelajaran Johor, was awarded a 33-year concession on the build-operate-transfer basis.
